Dawson, Georgia - Balloon Flight

28/02/2016 - Andrew Holly

Another short fly in to an airport - the second in three days. This area of Georgia is densely wooded and a fast flight poses he issue of a tricky landing. Whilst there are several open areas, the farm land can be difficult to access and also the fields here are saturated and not drivable at present. So plan B was get permission to land at this airport and find somewhere to take off. We managed to find a small hard stand just big enough for a Tekno and we were airborne within a few minutes. Another fly in with time constraints as the winds were quick meaning balancing being sure to get our 15 minute minimum whilst being on he ground before sunset and of course not forgetting to land at the airport. Dom Bareford would be proud, we landed on the apron next to the van after 20 minutes of flight and 5 minutes before sunset. This involved a sporty rapid descent from 3000ft after climbing higher than anticipated to get the right winds to make the airfield.... Another good day, now pack away and its a 5 hour drive to our next spot.....
